For Khethiwe Mvubu, a 30-year-old woman with a Diploma in Beauty Therapy, her love for beauty is what inspires her to show up and give her best in her field. 

Khethiwe has been in the beauty industry for twelve years and has been trained in various beauty therapies. She believes that she matters, and this self-belief has helped her to stay motivated and focused on her goals. Her passion for beauty has been the driving force behind her success. She believes that beauty is not just about looking good, but it’s also about feeling good.

When asked about her experience in the industry, Khethiwe said making her clients happy and feel good about themselves warms her heart. Seeing her work on magazine cover pages and in newspapers also brings her immense joy and satisfaction. 

Khethiwe believes that most clients misunderstand the importance of beauty and massages, as these treatments are seen as a want rather than a need and an important part in one’s self care routine. She believes that such myths are detrimental to the growth of the beauty industry. Khethiwe advises that taking care of oneself is paramount, and investing in beauty treatments is an investment in oneself and one’s future.

Social media has been a valuable resource for Khethiwe, and she spends most of her time on Instagram and Facebook staying updated on the latest beauty trends. However, TikTok has become the most up-to-date go-to for her.

Khethiwe’s advice for those interested in joining the beauty industry is to do it with love and passion. She believes that if you are passionate about what you do, it will bring more opportunities for you.

Meet Khethiwe Mbatha, a 30-year-old qualified beauty therapist who specializes in nail technology, massage therapy, and eyelash technology. She has been in the industry for seven years and has a deep passion for beauty and cosmetics. Her motto is “I am conquering my fears and becoming stronger each day.”

Working at @Sandton Spa, Khethiwe and her team pride themselves on giving their clients exclusive services that are efficient and convenient for them. They understand that time is precious and strive to offer services at the most suitable time for their clients.

Khethiwe loves helping people look good and feel even better. Her favorite product range is Matsimela as the results are incredible according to Khethiwe and her clients always leave happy and satisfied with their results. 

Unfortunately, some clients think massages are a waste of time and money. Khethiwe assures them that regular massages are an investment in one’s mental and physical state which will only have a positive effect on their future selves.

To keep up with the latest trends, Khethiwe uses social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to stay updated on the latest beauty and cosmetic trends. 

One of her most rewarding experiences was with a client who suffered from stiff and aching joints. Khethiwe introduced this client to regular massages and muscle ease gel, and now her client is doing much better in their day-to-day life and can walk long distances with ease.

Khethiwe believes that when entering the beauty industry, it is essential to do so with love and passion rather than just for the money. Her goal is to further her studies in beauty and open her own spa.

In conclusion, Khethiwe is a dedicated and passionate beauty therapist who has a genuine desire to help people feel good about themselves. She believes that there is more to the beauty industry than money, but should include genuine interest and passion for beauty and that is what drives her to show up as her best self in her field.

Motaung Tiny is a 34-year-old beauty therapist with a certificate in Technical Therapy Level 5 (Advanced Wax with Depelieve). Her mantra in life is “I am evolving,” and this is reflected in her love for beauty and her passion for helping people. She has been in the industry for ten years now and continues to evolve and grow as a therapist.

Currently, Motaung works with a group of qualified and mature therapists who are well-seasoned in the industry and have the experience and capabilities of handling any challenges and working well under pressure.

Motaung’s favorite part of her job is meeting new people from all over the world and seeing her client’s faces light up after receiving their wonderful @Sandton Spa treatments inc. She feels honored knowing that she is the reason behind their smile.

When it comes to beauty products, Motaung loves Lilian Terry from her own positive personal experience with the products. She went through depression in 2021 after the hard lockdown, and using Lilian Terry Better Day help her cope with her depression.

However, Motaung acknowledges that there are still common misconceptions in the beauty industry. For example, people believe that facial treatments and products are only meant for white people, and that manicures are only for women. She disagrees and believes that everyone deserves to look and feel beautiful, regardless of their skin color or gender.

To stay up-to-date with the latest trends in the industry, Motaung follows a number of beauty houses on Instagram and attends beauty expos. She also shared a heartwarming experience she had with a client who was insecure about her body. After helping her lose about 20kg, the client regained her confidence and has a whole new approach to life.

Motaung’s advice to aspiring beauty therapists is to learn beyond what they were taught in university or college. They should learn how to be a jake of all trades within the industry by learning how to make sales, and sell treatments, memberships, we well as products. Relying solely on a basic salary can lead to hating the job, and selling can help therapists make a real difference in their lives.

Motaung’s story shows how the beauty industry is an opportunity filled industry. She dreams of opening her own beauty shop where she can offer nails, lashes, IV trips, and facials. These are trending treatments that are drawing clients in and she plans to take advantage of this opportunity and make a great investment. Motaung’s passion for beauty and helping people is truly inspiring to all aspiring beauty therapists.

Meet Portia Masingu, a 41-year-old beauty therapist who has certificates in massage therapy, facial technology, and nail technology. Portia believes that it is never too late to be whom you want to be and your path will unfold as you walk your journey. Portia’s love for beauty and looking beautiful at all times inspired her to pursue a career in the beauty industry, and she has been in the industry for ten years.

Portia currently works at @Sandton Spa. Her favorite part of her job is seeing clients happy after every treatment. She also loves using Babor products because of how they sustain and restore the skin’s health and give the confidence of healthy glowing skin.

When asked about common misconceptions in the beauty industry, Portia pointed out that people commonly say that facial routines are not as effective as they are said to be and are a waste of time and money. She strongly disagrees, citing her experience with clients who have seen amazing results after consistent facial treatments.

To keep up with the latest trends in the industry, Portia uses social media, particularly Facebook and Instagram. She also shared a heartwarming experience she had with a client who suffered from acne and pigmentation. After a few sessions with her, the client’s skin started showing results, and she loved the glow. It turned her into a regular client.

Portia’s advice to aspiring beauty therapists is to do their work with love and passion, and the money will follow. She dreams of opening her own beauty spa someday, where she can offer the best service and products to her clients.

What are some of the upcoming trends for the spa space and how does @ Sandton Spa meet those trends?

The Spa experience is no longer simply about pampering, but to offer an extensive menu of healing therapies for mind body and soul.

@Sandton Spa we address the source of the problem, not just symptoms; we do a thorough consultation with the guest to find out how we can best treat them.

We perform the treatment and give homecare advice so that even outside of the Spa the guest continues therapy. We do advanced skin care treatments such as Micro-needling and Dermaplaning to ensure results.

We also have an amazing pilates studio within the Spa, COCO Pilates, which helps to improve strength, balance and flexibility.
